As Pokemon card collectors, we will often overlook some oddities in the card game. During my quest for cheap single cards, I came across a peculiar item. An energy card is usually not the most interesting to look at. This one, however, immediately piqued my interest, and not just because it eyed me suspiciously….
A Curious Japanese Energy Card Appears
If you are familiar with Japanese Pokemon cards, you know they treat energy cards a bit differently. They aren’t included in most sealed products or booster packs. Instead, they are sold separately and in deck products. It is a very interesting approach, and one I wish we would see in the International releases too.
As such, every time you DO find a Japanese energy card, it is worth looking at twice. It may be a reverse holographic version that you have never seen before. Other cards may have a small design tweak, making them stand out. Or, like this energy card in question, it may have a playable TCG effect.
Horror P Energy is not your average Pokemon energy card. Yes, it looks very similar to Psychic Energy as everyone knows. However, the design alone is a bit different. Firstly, this is a holofoil card with a high-quality finish. That makes all of the design choices of the card stand out even more. Every collector will appreciate that aspect alone.
But it gets more interesting too. Horror P Energy has an effect in the competitive TCG. If it is attached to a Pokemon, and that Pokemon takes damage, it will place two damage counters on the opponent’s attacking Pokemon. A very nasty side effect that needs to be handled carefully,

I am aware some collectors see this card and think “Oh, I might pick this up in English”. Unfortunately, this card was never translated into English. A peculiar choice, as it has received translations in 10 other languages, including Italian, Thai, and Cantonese. English was never on the radar, for some unknown reason.
If you want to pick this up, it exists in various Japanese sets. You can find this energy card as part of Rebel Clash, Shiny Star V, Silver Lance & Jet Black Spirit Jumbo Pack Set, the Rapid Strike Premium Trainer Box, and VMAX Climax. Or just look for it on the secondary market, it is not that hard to find.
I picked this card up almost by accident as part of a broader singles card purchase on Cardmarket. Initially, I didn’t plan on buying it because of the price tag (3 euro for an ENERGY CARD?!??!!). But it grew on me, so I had to pick it up. A bit of Horror P Energy never hurt anyone….unless your Pokemon attacks mine!
