It is no secret that I love going through Pokemon card bulk bins every week. Whether I can spend an hour or half a day, it’s always a fun experience. The good news is how this allows me to further complete the Storm Emeralda base set. I need just over 20 more cards to complete it, which is a rather exciting prospect.
Storm Emeralda Base Set Progress
I initially started off the Storm Emeralda base set by sheer accident. Going through the bulk bins a week ago, I found some of the connecting stadium cards. There were also a handful of base set cards in there, so of course, I grabbed them all. Even if I never found any more, I would at least have these.
Big was my surprise this week when I found myself in my adult playground – the card shop’s bulk bin area – again. Initially, the hope was to find the last missing half of the third connected stadium card I needed. However, no M6 cards showed up in the first 3 hours, which had me a bit worried.
Thankfully, things turned around in box 4 or 5. It was mainly English, but there was a string of Japanese cards. More importantly, they were ALL Storm Emeralda base set cards. Granted, some were duplicates again, but I found what I was after. The final missing connected stadium card was in there, as well as duplicates of the whirlpool one.
It is always worth picking up duplicates of the extended stadiums. They are some of the highlights in the base set, if you ask me. Granted, there are other cool common and uncommon cards too, most of which I managed to pick up this week. It was, all things considered, a rather bountiful ordeal!
The Big Finds This Week
Besides the missing connected stadium piece, I also beefed up my collection of other Storm Emeralda base set cards. We had a good mix of Fire, Water, Electricity, Psychic, Dark, and Colorless types in there. A few Fighting and Dragon cards too, along with several Grass types. I picked up over 40 cards, everything combined.
When putting it all on the table, I now have 53 out of 77 Storm Emeralda base set cards. That is a good amount, although it will also make it a tad harder to find the missing ones. More importantly, I managed to pick up some of the coolest artwork in this set at 25 cents per card.
The big pickups? TOMATO MARKET’s Marill, Shinji Kanda’s Sableye, and the base set Kecleon. The latter always gets such cool artwork regardless of rarity, and it is one of those Pokemon I absolutely want to collect every (un)common card of. Whether I can do so is a different matter, but we keep making slow and steady progress!
